Solana ETF Outflows Deepen as Alpenglow Goes Live

Solana is showing an increasingly sharp divergence between market positioning and on-chain infrastructure growth, with SOL trading near $107 as U.S. spot ETFs extend a multi-session redemption streak. The token remains roughly 14% below its late-September intraday high near $125 even as Alpenglow activates on mainnet and tokenized-asset usage continues expanding.

According to Farside Investors, U.S. Solana ETFs recorded net outflows in every trading session from October 5 through October 20. The 12-session sequence totals approximately $59.8 million, including $12.7 million on October 16, $6.7 million on October 19 and another $2.6 million on October 20. The persistent redemptions establish weaker demand for ETF shares during this period, but they do not identify the underlying investors as institutions or prove equivalent spot-market selling.

SOL itself traded around $107 on October 21 after reaching an intraday high of approximately $124.92 on September 27. A bearish head-and-shoulders setup identified by some technical analysts has produced downside projections near $80, but that level remains a chart-based scenario rather than an established price target or fundamental valuation for SOL.

Tokenized Assets Expand Despite ETF Redemptions

The network’s tokenization metrics have moved in the opposite direction. Solana announced 1.4 million tokenized-stock holding addresses on October 19, up from one million cumulative holder wallets reported for September. More recent tracking now places the figure above 1.5 million. Those counts show rapid expansion in address distribution, but one wallet is not equivalent to one person, institution or active investor.

Tokenized real-world assets excluding stablecoins also remain near record levels. Recent RWA.xyz-based data put distributed RWA value on Solana at approximately $4.37-$4.39 billion, with tokenized U.S. Treasuries representing roughly $1.52 billion. RWA value has expanded substantially without producing a corresponding rise in SOL’s market price, illustrating that asset deployment on a blockchain does not automatically create equivalent demand for its native token.

Tokenized equities are increasingly part of that infrastructure. The wider on-chain stock market had already reached a record $2.3 billion in value earlier in 2026, while Solana reported $684 million in tokenized-equity supply and approximately $4.4 billion in September trading volume. Supply, trading volume and holder addresses measure separate dimensions of adoption and should not be combined into a single capital-flow figure.

Alpenglow Changes Settlement, Not Market Demand

The technical backdrop changed materially on October 21. Solana Foundation’s official Alpenglow documentation now marks the new consensus system as live on mainnet in epoch 1064. Alpenglow replaces TowerBFT with Votor and targets approximately 150-millisecond finality, reducing the time required for blocks to become irreversible without changing SVM execution, transaction formats or fee mechanics.

The upgrade follows other capacity improvements, including Transaction V1’s increase of the maximum transaction size to 4,096 bytes. Faster finality can shorten settlement confirmation windows for exchanges, payment applications and tokenized-asset infrastructure, but it does not itself increase liquidity, ETF demand or the value of assets issued on Solana.

The divergence is also visible in corporate positioning. DeFi Development Corp has continued expanding its SOL treasury, although its pace of additions has slowed, while SkyAI took the opposite approach and liquidated its entire SOL position before launching a $201 million tender offer. Those contrasting balance-sheet decisions reinforce that institutional or corporate exposure to Solana is not moving uniformly in one direction.

Solana therefore enters the Alpenglow era with two different signals running simultaneously. ETF products have recorded 12 consecutive sessions of net redemptions while tokenized-asset distribution, RWA value and network infrastructure continue expanding. Whether those fundamentals eventually translate into stronger demand for SOL remains a separate market question that neither faster finality nor growing on-chain asset counts can answer on their own.
