Ripple Expands RLUSD Infrastructure as Transfer Volume Slows

Ripple’s U.S.-regulated stablecoin RLUSD received two institutional-focused upgrades on July 24, 2026, with the rollout of Ripple Mint and a strategic investment tied to Notabene’s compliance Flow. The moves strengthen RLUSD’s institutional operating layer even as monthly transfer volume has declined.

The contrast matters because RLUSD is showing broader wallet participation but softer value movement. Holder count and active addresses rose over the period, while transfer volume fell, suggesting distribution is widening faster than transactional velocity.

Ripple Mint Targets Institutional Stablecoin Operations

Ripple Mint is designed to automate core stablecoin lifecycle functions for institutional clients. Through a web interface and API access, the platform centralizes minting, redemption, bridging and liquidity tracking, giving treasury and payments teams a more controlled RLUSD workflow.

That matters for firms managing stablecoin balances across multiple venues and chains. Manual minting and redemption processes can create settlement delays, reconciliation gaps and operational risk, while Mint is meant to provide a cleaner interface for institutional liquidity management.

Ripple’s investment in Notabene adds a compliance layer to the same strategy. By integrating RLUSD into Notabene Flow, the companies aim to embed transaction-level checks and support regulatory obligations such as the FATF Travel Rule, making compliance screening part of stablecoin payment infrastructure.

That integration could reduce friction around counterparty authorization and transaction monitoring. The goal is not only moving RLUSD faster, but moving it through rails that institutional compliance teams can approve and document.

The rollout also coincides with RLUSD’s multichain expansion through Wormhole’s Native Token Transfers standard. Planned deployments across the XRPL EVM sidechain, Base, Optimism, Ink and Unichain place cross-chain settlement at the center of RLUSD’s next growth phase.

Usage Signals Remain Mixed Despite Product Expansion

The market data around RLUSD is less straightforward. Over the 30-day window ending July 24, monthly transfer volume fell from about $14.6 billion to $10.95 billion, a decline near 25%, showing weaker value movement despite new institutional tooling.

Market capitalization also slipped almost 5% to roughly $1.5 billion. That decline suggests the product expansion has not yet translated into stronger aggregate supply growth or higher transaction throughput.

At the same time, holder count rose about 6%, while active addresses increased roughly 70%. Those figures point to broader on-chain participation even as average transfer intensity has cooled.

That pattern implies RLUSD is being accumulated or distributed across more wallets, but not yet used more heavily for high-frequency settlement. For market participants, the distinction matters because held supply and transacted supply create different revenue and liquidity profiles.

Analysts have linked RLUSD’s institutional positioning to broader demand dynamics for XRP as a bridge asset within Ripple’s cross-border stack. That connection remains conditional, because higher RLUSD integration does not automatically prove sustained XRP liquidity demand.

The more immediate test is operational. Ripple Mint and Notabene Flow must convert regulated access, compliance checks and multichain availability into measurable increases in high-value institutional settlement, making actual payment throughput the key adoption metric.

For engineering and operations teams, the metrics to watch are bridge latency, batch publishing costs, settlement rates and the ratio of held versus transacted RLUSD supply. Those indicators will show whether RLUSD is becoming institutional payment infrastructure or simply a more widely distributed stablecoin balance.
