U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted approximately $244.4 million in net inflows on August 5, extending a three-session buying streak to roughly $626 million. The renewed demand arrived while Bitcoin traded near $65,000, making regulated ETF accumulation a stabilizing force during an otherwise fearful market period.
The timing matters because retail-oriented sentiment remained deeply negative. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index stood at 25, classified as “Extreme Fear,” creating a sharp divide between fund flows and the broader emotional tone surrounding Bitcoin.
BlackRock Dominates the Three-Day Buying Streak
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust captured approximately $479 million over the three positive sessions, accounting for more than three-quarters of the combined inflows. That concentration reinforces IBIT’s position as the primary channel for large-scale regulated Bitcoin exposure.
On August 5 alone, IBIT attracted roughly $196.8 million. ARK 21Shares’ ARKB followed with approximately $37.6 million, while Fidelity’s FBTC and Bitwise’s BITB added smaller positive totals, showing demand extending across several issuers despite BlackRock’s overwhelming lead.
The flows do not establish that every purchaser was an institution, because ETF shares can also be acquired through retail brokerage accounts. They nevertheless indicate strong demand through investment structures commonly used by wealth managers, advisers and professional allocators.
Bitcoin briefly traded above $64,920 during the session before settling near $64,745 at the time of reporting. The restrained price response suggests new ETF demand was being absorbed by existing holders willing to sell into the recovery.
That pattern is consistent with a consolidation phase. Investors who bought at higher prices may use rallies to reduce exposure, while long-term allocators accumulate through ETFs, creating a market in which substantial buying produces stability rather than an immediate breakout.
ETF Demand Collides With Weak Market Sentiment
The divergence between ETF flows and extreme fear illustrates how different investor groups can respond to the same market conditions. Short-term traders may remain defensive, while strategic buyers view lower prices as an opportunity to rebuild Bitcoin exposure through regulated and liquid fund wrappers.
ETF demand has become increasingly important to Bitcoin’s market structure. Fund creations can translate into underlying asset purchases, while redemptions can add selling pressure, making daily ETF activity a material component of spot-market liquidity and price discovery.
Still, three positive sessions are not enough to establish a durable trend. The sustainability of the move will depend on whether inflows continue after Bitcoin tests the $65,000 area and whether buying broadens beyond IBIT into a more diversified set of fund issuers and investor channels.
Market participants have identified a decisive break above $65,000 as an important confirmation signal. If Bitcoin converts that zone into support while ETF demand persists, the market could interpret the current streak as the beginning of a more durable accumulation phase.
Failure to hold that level would produce a less constructive reading. Continued selling from existing holders could absorb fund demand and keep Bitcoin range-bound, demonstrating that positive ETF flows are supportive but not sufficient to overcome every source of market pressure.
Macro conditions will also shape the next phase. Expectations around Federal Reserve policy, geopolitical risk and wider demand for speculative assets can either reinforce ETF buying or drive allocators back toward cash and lower-risk instruments.
Sustained inflows require efficient creation processes, custody coordination and reliable liquidity. Concentration inside IBIT may improve execution for large buyers, but it also means a change in demand for one dominant product can materially influence aggregate daily flow figures.
The practical approach is to evaluate ETF data alongside price behavior, derivatives positioning and broader liquidity. Strong inflows accompanied by limited appreciation may signal accumulation, but they can also reveal persistent overhead supply that must clear before Bitcoin can establish a stronger trend.
The three-day streak ultimately shows that institutional-style demand can return before sentiment improves. Whether that buying establishes a new market floor will depend on persistence, because Bitcoin needs sustained capital formation rather than a brief ETF rebound to confirm a durable recovery.
