Hunter Biden Launches LAPTOP Memecoin on Base

Hunter Biden has launched LAPTOP, a one-billion-token memecoin on the Base blockchain that turns the long-running controversy surrounding his laptop into a crypto project. The token combines community airdrops, founder allocations and event-linked burns with distributions aimed partly at wallets that lost money trading President Donald Trump’s TRUMP token. Biden described the launch through his Substack as an effort centered on “resilience, redemption, and recovery.”

The project’s official LAPTOP website confirms a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens and identifies the Base contract as 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29. LAPTOP is explicitly described as a memecoin without equity, ownership, profit-sharing or governance rights, making the product a speculative digital collectible rather than an ownership interest in a business.

LAPTOP Ties Supply to Airdrops and Predictions

Twenty percent of supply is allocated to community airdrops, divided between a day-one distribution and future distributions. Part of the initial allocation targets wallets that previously recorded losses on TRUMP, while Biden’s eligible Substack subscribers are also included in the distribution program. The project does not frame those tokens as compensation guaranteeing recovery of prior losses.

Another 30% is assigned to 30 predefined political, crypto and cultural outcomes. If a specified event occurs, its associated tokens are permanently burned; if it does not, the corresponding allocation goes to charity. The mechanism makes future supply partly dependent on externally observable events, with the project website displaying prediction-market references for several outcomes.

Founders, including Biden, receive 30% of total supply. The Wall Street Journal reported that those tokens are locked for six months and then vest over a two-year period. The extended founder schedule delays a large portion of potential supply from reaching the market immediately, while the project says 35% of total supply is unlocked at token generation.

Base Distances Itself From the Launch

The decision to deploy on Base does not represent an endorsement from the Coinbase-incubated network. Base founder Jesse Pollak said Biden’s team approached Base but that the network chose not to participate in designing or promoting the token. The distinction reinforces Base’s permissionless structure, where assets can launch without a formal partnership with the network operator.

Kraken also deleted a promotional post about LAPTOP after criticism from traders, although that action did not establish that the exchange had abandoned any potential listing plans. The episode highlights the reputational sensitivity surrounding politically associated memecoins, particularly when exchanges or infrastructure providers are perceived as endorsing a token rather than simply supporting access.

Multiple unrelated tokens using the LAPTOP name appeared before the official Base launch, adding another risk for traders attempting to identify the genuine asset. The official contract address is therefore a critical identifier in a market already populated by copycat tokens, while the project itself warns that LAPTOP can lose some or all of its value and offers no promise of liquidity or future price support.
