FBI Seizes $560K in Crypto Linked to Hamas

U.S. federal authorities seized approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency and took control of online infrastructure allegedly used by Hamas to raise funds and recruit supporters. The operation targeted both digital assets and fundraising infrastructure connected to the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, according to an official Justice Department announcement released on September 1.

The FBI also seized domains and servers associated with the fundraising operation, including infrastructure supporting the group’s main website. The disruption gave investigators access to information involving thousands of people who contacted Hamas online seeking to donate or attempt to donate, according to the Justice Department.

FBI Traces Crypto Across Multiple Seizures

Court-authorized actions focused on cryptocurrency addresses used to solicit and move donations. Investigators relied on blockchain tracing and information from human sources to identify the relevant wallets. Three cryptocurrency seizure warrants executed in March, June and October 2025 ultimately led authorities to approximately $560,000 in digital assets intended for the Al-Qassam Brigades.

The seized assets included multiple cryptocurrencies, reflecting the use of different networks and token types within the fundraising operation. The case demonstrates how investigators can follow funds even when operators rotate addresses or move activity across several digital assets, challenging the assumption that cryptocurrency transactions are inherently beyond government tracing.

The enforcement effort later expanded from wallets to internet infrastructure. Authorities executed additional warrants in 2026 targeting domains and servers connected to fundraising and recruitment activities. Taking control of that infrastructure allowed the FBI not only to disrupt existing channels but also to intercept information tied to attempted future donations.

Federal officials said the broader investigation remains active. The seized amount should not be interpreted as the full scale of Hamas-linked fundraising, but rather as the portion identified and captured through the warrants disclosed by authorities.

Crypto Tracing Becomes a Bigger Enforcement Tool

The case highlights the increasing role of blockchain analytics in counter-terrorist financing investigations. By combining transaction tracing with traditional investigative methods, federal authorities were able to connect cryptocurrency addresses with fundraising infrastructure and pursue both assets and digital services through coordinated legal actions.

Justice Department and FBI officials framed the operation as a way to reduce the resources available for recruitment and other activities. The enforcement strategy goes beyond freezing individual wallets by targeting the broader infrastructure used to solicit, route and receive funds, potentially making replacement channels more difficult to establish.

For exchanges, custodians and other crypto service providers, the action reinforces the compliance implications of traceable digital-asset flows. Multi-asset transfers and rotating wallet addresses do not eliminate exposure to sanctions, monitoring or seizure actions when investigators can connect activity to prohibited financing networks.

The operation also extends a longer-running U.S. enforcement approach toward cryptocurrency-based terrorist financing. The central takeaway is that digital assets can create new fundraising routes, but their public transaction records can also provide investigators with evidence for coordinated asset and infrastructure seizures.
